6-membered group EXO-K, the boys from outerspace who have superpowers have started to conquer the Earth

These six boys who casually say they have super powers… Kai (18) who can teleport, D.O (19) who has the power of earth, Baekhyun (20) light, Chanyeol (20) fire, Sehun (18) wind, and their leader, who controls water, Suho (21) all seem to be heroes from ‘Marvel Comics’

SM Entertainment’s newest group EXO-K entered the music world in April with their first mini-album, ‘MAMA’

The members’ confidence in saying they have superpowers has made reporters feel slightly awkward.

When asked “Who decided to give you you these powers”, the boys were a bit taken aback but still carefully replied “Lee Soo Man CEO”. However, they do insist on saying “We really have superpowers”. Besides, there were rumors on Internet saying SM’s CEO Lee Soo Man was a part of the Freemasons (a secret organization)

The team’s name for EXO is from EXOPLANET, a planet out of the solar system from where the members are from. Suho explained “It means we are new stars coming from an unknown world”.

The 12 members spent from one to five years in SM as trainees. They are split in two teams, EXO-K and EXO-M and are simultaneously promoting in Korea and China. Their title track ‘MAMA’ was made by the popular composer Yoo Youngjin and marks the revival of the SMP genre.

“It has been a while since the SMP got shown. The SMP genre that was blossoming during H.O.T’s era can be seen as out of season but we rather think it can be something refreshing for young people. We put our colors in this song that has a magnificient sound, Gregorian chants and a medieval melody.” (Suho, Kai, Baekhyun)

EXO-K is a part of SM that back then produced H.O.T and more recently idols such as DBSK or SNSD and is also the latest boygroup coming from the company, 4 years after SHINee’s debut. Don’t they feel pressured?

“During our showcase in March, we were so nervous we thought we were about to lose our minds. We even forgot our own names while introducing ourselves. We worried about not being able to be on par with our other seniors but we will work hard”. (All)

The EXO-K members have also been recognized as people of high talents aside from music. Every member has his own charm. Kai has top class dance skills and always performs well, D.O is a talented cook who can make spaghetti or fried rice and the playful Chanyeol and Sehun are said to be the mood makers of the team.

Suho attends the Korean National University of Arts and was always ranked among the best 50 out of 400 students. Baekhyun is a ‘well-prepared variety program person’. He imitates Kwon Sangwoo perfectly.

“Even if SM looks at the talent, they also look at the personality carefully. They follow the way our characters are built. We did volunteer work for elders before debut with our manager for six months. We also visited a school for the deaf and learned maths and we also went to a nursery and had fun with kids.” (Chanyeol, Sehun) 

Finally, the members revealed their goal was to lead the Hallyu Wave like their seniors from SM and have their music recognized worldwide.

“We want to have the SHINee seniors’ stylish appearance, the Super Junior seniors’ sense in variety programs and be able to perform as splendidly as the DBSK seniors. But first we have to win the newcomer award.”
