EXO has been hitting and topping the airwaves recently; as well as the online and even offline charts. EXO Stans sure did enjoy these big news. But some bashers and random netizens commented that EXO's popularity and success is just because of their good looks and enormous fandom.
Can this be true?

In this light, I give you this week's Weekly Topics!

EXO – King of Male Idol Groups

EXO managed to get on top and emerged as one of the big male idol groups this year, all thanks to their consecutive hit songs Wolf and Growl. These songs put EXO on the map. But does this really put them up for the title, King of Male Idol Groups?

A year ago, EXO debuted with their title track "MAMA," but didn't receive much attention until this year's Wolf and Growl. With these new songs they dominated the Korean music industry. That made the people curious and buzz even more, how did EXO suddenly go from being small fish to becoming big shot they are today?

When they first came out, they were separated into two units namely: EXO-K and EXO-M, but they weren't very popular with the public. MAMA's success can be more widely attributed to the large fandom they have rather than the public's interest in the group. But with the group's unique choreography in Wolf and fresh and new concept of Growl, they became extremely popular - that fast. Their good looks just proved to be a plus.

EXO caused a ruckus between less popular boy groups and disturbed the peace with their sudden boom and capture of the industry. Despite the fierce competition they are facing, EXO managed to get on top. This is made evident by their 14 consecutive wins on music programs' Inkigayo, M Countdown, Music Bank, and Music Core with their song Growl and it doesn't look like it will end there just yet.

Another proof of EXO's popularity is their short but impactful appearances on Immortal Song, Beatles Code 2, Weekly Idol and Infinite Challenge. On the August 31st Jun Young Rok special of Immortal Song, EXO adapted the song "Still a Dark Night" and made it into an urban R&B song similar to Growl. Some liked it and some didn't, but EXO's unique rendition and different take on the song kept the buzz alive.

Adding to their feat and immense popularity, EXO's 1st album sold a record of 727,159 copies (1st album 424,260 copies, 1st repackaged album 312,899 copies). EXO's 700,000+ album sales is proof of EXO's leading position in the music world today; the greatest record set in 12 years.

The revival of the pop music market and popularity of idol groups is partly due to EXO. That's why EXO is worthy of 2013's titles "leading Hallyu idol," and the "King of Male Idol Groups." They recently had their goodbye stage, but this didn't stop the fire of their popularity. Furthermore, their upcoming World Tour just speaks lengths of how big they are to date. Everyone can look forward to their continued success and role in the music industry today. EXO hwaiting!~ 

People might continue bashing, belittling and criticizing our boys and say that they are not the Kings; yes, they can all they want. But no one can deny EXO's massive success and public acceptance. Move aside Shinhwa, TVXQ, Super Junior and Big Bang! They can't be the kings forever. Let's give EXO the title "King of Male Idol Groups", to hell where the title "King of Kings of Male Idol Groups" go to. 

We are one, we are EXO!
