In Korea, trot is king.
A recent Korea Gallup poll has found that
only one song by an idol group ranks in Koreans’ favorite songs to sing.
The results of the national poll, which surveyed 1,700 people over the
age of 13 on their favorite hobbies and other cultural preferences, were
released on February 25.
In the “songs Koreans love to sing” category, EXO’s “Growl”
was the only idol group track to be featured in the top ten with .7
percent of the total responses, most of which came from teenage fans
alone. Many of the remaining songs were trot tracks, with Oh Seung Geun’s “What’s Wrong With My Age” earning first place with two percent of the responses. Tied for second place were Park Sang Chul’s “Unconditionally” and Noh Sa Yeon’s “Meeting” with 1.4 percent, while Jang Yoon Jung’s “Oh My Goodness” took third place with 1.1 percent. Rounding out the top five were Lee Mi Ja’s “Camellia Young Lady” and Kim Soo Hee’s “Southbound Train,” each earning one percent of the total responses.
