Everyone’s been doing recaps of Exo’s activities and
accomplishments this year. And as you would have noticed from last week’s post,
I was set on doing something like that too. But, I’m sure you’ve all seen way too
many recaps and I’m not going to bore you with yet another one.
But if you haven’t come across a list, here’s a post you should
check out! If you stay until the end of the blog, you’ll find out why I used
this particular post.
So then, what will we talk about this week?
Instead of looking back, I want to look forward. We all know
about resolutions, and I’m sure more than a few of us have made and forgotten
some of the promises we made for the year. Maybe you vowed to exercise more,
eat healthier or even not fangirl as much. Okay, that last one is basically an
impossible resolution.
In terms of being an Exo-L, maybe you promised to save up
for a light stick, or for the next Exo concert that is in a city near you.
Perhaps you even told yourself you’d order the album that won Exo a Daesang
that year. And then the new year came, and you spent that money on something
completely different (in my case, clothes!)
I’ve decided to make a little resolution list of my own, and
some of them are small but I have my reasons as to why they’re here.
Acacia’s 2017 Exo’lution List (This sounds like I’m planning
another concert for Exo!)
1.Buy my first Exo album
Yes, I’m an Exo-L without merchandise. Like I don’t even
have a keyring.
This one time I decided that if I was too broke to buy merch,
and because I have parents who don’t support my fangirl habits, I would create
my own Exo-themed thingamabob (that’s a word…probably). So I recycled some old
files from my grade 12 year and sat at my computer picking the best photos of
all the Exo members.
Of course this was in 2013, when OT12 was still a thing and there
also weren’t a whole lot of great Exo pictures floating about on the internet.
But I made do, and dѐcoupaged my way through 3 files. When I was done, it
looked good enough to sell on Etsy. That was also the tool I used to introduce
my new university friends to Exo and Kpop.
But that whole anecdote aside, next year I will place an
order for my favorite album ever: Ex’act. Unless Exo completely outdoes themselves
with a new album…which is totally possible.
2.Show more love to Jongin and Chen
Yes, I’ve said these things before and I’ve made some
good progress. But not enough that I’m satisfied with myself. I think a few of
us will always have members that don’t rank quite high enough up on our list.
If that’s you, then you’ll know what I’m feeling.
These two have always been in the background for me. With
Chen, I know he’s brilliant vocalist and a major troll. But he never quite screamed
bias or bias wrecker. As a result, I probably know less about Chen than I do
about geoids.
Regarding Kai, three years ago he was the only Exo member
who’s face and name I knew. Maybe Kaistal made me back off quite a bit. Don’t
get me wrong, I support Kaistal. Like Krystal better be appreciating this
little marshmallow she has as a boyfriend, because about 2 million other girls could
only dream of being in her position. Literally dream, because I’m sure Kai
appeared in more than a few fangirls’ dreams. But knowing that just meant that
my interest in him never developed.
However, in 2017 I will not let anything stand in the way of
me getting to know these two a lot more. Even if I have to re-watch everything
Exo has ever appeared on just to focus on them. My dedication to this
resolution is stronger than my love for Lee Soo Hyuk (see below for those who
don’t know him).
3.Appreciate the winter albums a little more
Now I’m guilty of not giving the year-end albums my full
attention. Usually it’s because the songs are wintery and have slow tempos, and
because of the ridiculous humidity in my home city, I cannot stand them. ‘For
Life’ is the first winter album I’ve successfully listened to completely and I was
pleasantly surprised. Especially with ‘24’!
So next year, when December rolls around and I’m somewhere in
middle of Italy, I will give the winter album the same amount of excitement and
anticipation as I do with the other comebacks.
4.Be a better leader for Exo Amino
Now some of you are probably thinking, what is Exo Amino?
Can I eat it? Well, no you can’t but you can come over and ingest some good Exo-related content.
So I’m being a bit sneaky and using this blog to make an
announcement as well. EXOdicted will be forming a new partnership next year with
another type of Exo fansite. To be exact, it’s an Exo fan app.
Amino apps is a great service where you can join just about
any community for any interests you may have. Exo Amino has been around for
roughly 6 months and it’s doing great. So the next step of course, is to unite
together with one the biggest Exo fansites and connect more of you Exo-L’s
together.
I know there are a few EXOdicted readers who’ve recognised
me as a leader on Exo Amino. So to confirm, here’s a screenshot of my profile.
So feel free to come over and fangirl with me.
The app lets you create posts about anything Exo related and
share it with almost 40 000 other Exo-L’s. You can also make polls, ask
questions and even chat using our public chats section. The entire community is
dedicated to joining Exo fans to bond over the one thing that unites us.
But getting back to my resolution, I want to be a better
leader for this huge community and join the fans over there, together with the fans who
live on EXOdicted.
If you’re curious about the community, here are download
links for iOS and Android.
The formal EXOdicted-Exo Amino partnership will begin
sometime in January 2017. The teams on both sides are finalising our plans and
once that is done, I will let you all know with a big announcement listing all the
new crossover features.
Okay, shameless promotion over. Let’s get back to business.
5.Get over Kris Wu
Yes, like a broken-hearted girl, I must get over the bias
who I can bias no longer. Kris Wu, just know that this Kris-sized void in my
bias list will never be filled. And it’s a pretty big hole…like galaxy black
hole big.
If you’ve ready my other posts, you’ll know that Baekhyun now
fills the position of Exo bias. But you will also know I have a tendency to reminisce
over Kris more often than necessary. Is it unfair to the Byun? Probably a
little, but you never forget your first bias- ever.
But in 2017, Kris will not only have been gone from Exo for more
than two years, he will also have made his Hollywood debut in xXX: The Return
of Xander Cage. So it doesn’t feel right to have him occupy this space of ‘Exo
Bias’. Rather, he will graduate to being a bias among solo artists.
Did you think I was vowing to completely remove Kris Wu off
my bias list? Yeah, I don’t think I could even do that. He’s always going to
have a place, just now it’s a different place. It’s like he moved houses…
Okay, weird and slightly creepy analogies aside, in 2017 I
will mention Kris less as the Exo member I miss too much.
He came in with chicken is not my style, and left with Exo
is not my style…but he’s still my style
and that’s all that matters.
Well, it’s been a lengthy blog, and as 2016 comes to an
end, so must this. I’ve got my list of Exo’lutions up for everyone to see and
now it’s your turn.
As an Exo-L, what are your resolutions for 2017?
So for now, Happy New Year everyone!
See you guys next year!
